SCHEDULING OF WORKS

Objective

Work scheduling involves determining the need for maintenance activities for the technical managers of an infrastructure network over a given period. This includes specifying the nature of the work (light maintenance, medium maintenance, heavy maintenance) and its distribution across the entire surveyed network to maintain it in a satisfactory condition relative to its purpose (freight transport, passenger transport).

This service plays a crucial role in establishing an overall budget for network maintenance for the managers.

How?

To carry out this service, we rely on an audit of the infrastructure network.

To achieve this, it is necessary to collect data from the network, primarily through a survey of deteriorations. These data provide insights into the health of the network, and it is rated according to the manager’s rating system (for example: Excellent, Good, Poor, Very Poor).

Based on this rating, the maintenance needs are determined (for example: light, medium, heavy) and tailored to each manager’s requirements.

PRIORITIZATION OF WORKS

Objective

After the scheduling of works is completed, it may be necessary to establish a priority order for the works over a time scale (typically between 5 and 10 years). This is referred to as the prioritization of works.

How?

To prioritize the works, we base our decisions on the work schedule and determine the order and type of works over a time scale of several years.

To achieve this, we establish a priority scale (defined in collaboration with the infrastructure network manager), which generally depends on the condition of the roadways, traffic levels (whether there is a presence of heavy trucks or not), and the strategic choice for maintaining the network.

There are as many strategies as there are managers. We present all the advantages and disadvantages of the strategies so that the project owner can make an informed decision. The two most well-known strategies are:

    • Curative Strategy: Prioritizing the treatment of the most degraded roadways, with the risk that less degraded roadways may continue to deteriorate.
    • Preventive Strategy: Prioritizing the treatment of roadways that are moderately degraded, while delaying the treatment of the most degraded ones.

Effective communication between the manager and our team is crucial to ensure that the prioritization aligns with their network.

REINFORCEMENT STUDIES

Objective

At the scale of a runway section, in addition to recording deterioration, further in-situ investigations (coring, curvature radius, deflections, radar, etc.) and laboratory testing (material tests to determine their mechanical properties) allow us to gather as much information as possible to assess the condition and behavior of the runway. Reinforcement studies provide a detailed diagnosis, enabling the identification of the root causes of airport pavement deterioration.

PAVEMENT DESIGN

Objective

At the scale of a runway section, following a reinforcement study that provides an optimized diagnosis and identifies the causes of pavement distress, we determine, verify, and optimize construction solutions through a calculation and modeling phase: pavement design. To do so, we rely on the recommendations of standard NF P 98-086, Structural Design of Pavements, as well as on the reinforcement guidelines provided by Cerema and IDRRIM.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL TESTS OR DATA ANALYSES
